PERFORMERS

While the director, Nii Tagoe, is from Ghana, FRITITI embodies an entourage of 20 carefully trained male and female senior company dancers, musicians, storytellers, singers and acrobats. Coming from Nigeria, Senegal, Angola, S.Tome, the Caribbean, Zaire, Ghana, Sweden and the United Kingdom, the group demonstrates the strength of London as the centre of multicultural artistic excellence.

In April 2003, FRITITI founded in conjunction with Dina Furtado, a junior company in Lisbon. The company, Sankofa, joins together a core of 90 children of various backgrounds and conducts educational outreach programmes to over 400 youths between the ages five and seventeen in the UK and Portugal. The programmes aim to promote traditional African drumming and dance by motivating children to practise it and pass it on to the next generation. It also gives children the opportunity to uncover and develop skills and talents, to show them through their performances on stage and also at school, improving communication skills, academic results, and self-esteem.

The company is available for live performances at festivals, private functions (weddings, funerals and all manner of special celebrations), television broadcasting, charity and fundraising events.
